Namco Bandai announced that it will be attempting to set a Guinness World Record next week in London. Namco, in association with Atari, will be publishing Star Trek Online, and it plans to set a cosplay record — the “largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters.” Yeah, it’s apparently a legitimate record.
The nerd assembly will take place next Saturday at London’s Millenium Bridge in celebration of the MMO’s release. The best-dressed cosplayers will win some cool STO prizes, like lifetime subscriptions and copies of the Star Trek movie.
“Star Trek has such a huge following around the world, and its legion of fans deservedly has a reputation as one of the most committed groups in Sci-Fi fandom,” said Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor of Guinness World Records 2010 Gamer’s Edition. “It will be a great honor to adjudicate the first official world record attempt of this kind.”
