Streaming game system OnLive is poised to launch this year, but is it a danger to the onlive services currently in the industry? Sony doesn’t think so. MCV asked PlayStation UK executive Ray Maguire if OnLive, or Cloud-based gaming in general, would pose a problem for the traditional console.
“Whilst the remote storage and access of files is becoming increasingly common, when it comes to delivering an entertainment experience on par with the quality consumers have come to expect and that they demand, dedicated games consoles remain the only systems powerful enough to do this.”
Translation: “no.” Sony is not worried about OnLive harming the PS3’s market. I know of some individuals participating in the OnLive beta, and they would probably agree.
