Sid Meier is an icon of the video game industry. He is the mastermind of numerous hugely popular strategy games, including the Civilization series. And with 25 years’ experience in the industry, it doesn’t come as a surprise to hear that Meier will be keynoting this year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Meier’s presentation, called “The Psychology of Game Design (Everything You Know Is Wrong),” will take a different look at game design, focusing on the psychology of the gamer, which is the “driving force of a game‘s design,” according to him. Meier will describe how this aspect overshadows other parts that make up a game, such as “the laws of logic, physics, or algebra.”
“It’s an honor to have Sid Meier, a true pioneer in game development, share his decades worth of insight at the 2010 Game Developers Conference,” said Meggan Scavio, GDC Event Director. “We’re also delighted to welcome so many other high quality lectures from the industry’s leading developers.”
GDC 2010 takes place March 9-13 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.
