If you missed Saturday night’s VGAs, then you may or may not be aware that another True Crime is in the works, this time in Hong Kong. The game, simply named True Crime, centers around a detective who’s trying to expose the Triad crime organization. Like the previous True Crime games, this one will feature hand-to-hand and weapon combat and a morality system (balancing decisions as a cop and Triad “member”). Unlike the previous games, however, True Crime is being developed by United Front Gamers, developers behind ModNation Racers. It’s expected to hit Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in Fall 2010.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to deliver a complete reboot of the True Crime experience,” said United Front Games Executive Producer Stephen van der Mescht. “As our Spike TV VGA reveal trailer shows, we are dedicated to creating both an exceptional open-world gameplay experience through our combat, free-running, shooting and driving mechanics, as well as a rich story with memorable recurring characters. We want players to feel like an undercover cop experiencing the moral dilemmas and life and death situations of the HK underworld.”
“We’ve been waiting for the right story and opportunity to bring True Crime to a new generation of gamers in 2010,” said Activision’s Maria Stipp. “United Front Games has the vision to bring this new undercover game experience to life, where fans will play out their own epic Hong Kong action thriller!”
Let’s hope they really get this one right. Previous installments in the True Crime franchise have been notorious for being less-than-stellar, and it’s a hard genre to compete in with the elephant in the closet (elephant being Grand Theft Auto).
