Here's some disappointing news. A couple days ago, word went out that a new Worms game was headed to Steam, supposedly a 2D, back-to-basics take on the series. Today, we've learned that it's merely going to be "an extended edition of the console versions."
Team 17 made the clarification on its Facebook page, writing, "Just to clear up some confusion, the new PC Worms release on steam will be called "Worms Reloaded" which is a an extended edition of the console versions of late. More details soon."
The console versions of course being Worms and Worms 2: Armageddon on XBLA and PSN. It sounds like it's just going to be a rehash of those, so my excitement just diminished for Worms Reloaded.

Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter has gone half off on steam dropping the already budget minded price for the bullet filled shooter to the lowly price of $7.49. If pure FPS action is your craze then this is your chance to get one of the finest.

Valve has announced a new version of Steam which is immediately available in public beta.
This opt-in beta is available immediately to all Steam users. If users already have Steam installed on their computer, they can take part in the beta by clicking this link (steam://open/settings) and then selecting "UI Update" under Beta Participation. If they don't have Steam installed, they can download it here (http://store.steampowered.com/). To preview the new Steam client without taking part in the beta, a complete rundown of the new features is available here (http://store.steampowered.com/uiupdate/).
With the new Steam release, gamers will now be able to see which games their friends have purchased directly within the Steam storefront. News outlets now have the ability to reach the Steam community through the new client's News aggregator functionality. Those organizations interested can contact Doug Lombardi at lombardi@valvesoftware.com.
With users purchasing more and more games through Steam, new methods of library management were needed. The new client introduces library customization tools to help gamers sort, group, and find games in libraries which for some hardcore players contain hundreds of titles. In addition to having lots of games, gamers needed methods of tracking all of their achievements in a standardized cross-game fashion, which is now possible with the new release. (more...)

Team 17's Martyn Brown revealed on Twitter today that a new Worms title will be coming to Steam, and it's going to be 2D!
"We are pleased to announce a new edition of 2D Worms for PC! 'Worms Reloaded' is coming soon via Steam," Brown said. "Details & features to follow...."
Other than that, we have no details on the game, but it sounds like it's not too far off. It also sounds like they are going back to their roots with Worms, so that's a relief.

So if Total War isn't your thing, maybe this Steam deal will tickle your taco. Frozenbyte's intriguing platformer Trine (which won our editors' choice award, mind you) is on sale for 75% off. Normally retailing for $19.99, you can now pick this slick game up for just $5.00. I would highly recommend it.
If you're not convinced, maybe our review of it will help sway you.

Empire: Total War has received a new DLC pack, Elite Units of the East, and in true celebratory fashion, Steam is offering all Total War games for a whopping 66% off. The deal runs through Monday, February 15, so you've got a whole week to pick the games up. I'd personally recommend Empire: Total War and Rome: Total War.
Head over to the Steam page to take advantage of the deal.

It's almost the weekend! And that means it's time for another Steam weekend deal. This time they're offering all Far Cry games for half off. Now you can pick up Far Cry and Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition for $4.99 and $9.99 respectively.
Far Cry is a must buy if you haven't play it, and Far Cry 2 is great if you love driving around getting shot at. To be honest, Far Cry 2 is pretty crap, but at least you can get it for cheap!
Head on over to Steam and get yourself a piece of Far Cry action.

The Aliens vs. Predator demo has gone live on Steam this evening, so go and get your grubby hands on that. Yes, it features multiplayer, and the servers have been fairly empty, so hurry up and download it dammit!
As for the Xbox 360 demo, that will be going up on Xbox Live sometime tomorrow.
Let it be known that it doesn't suck.
