When the PS3 version of Modnation Racers was first shown off at E3 last year, I was skeptical as to how the game would traslate over to the PSP. After I got some one on one time with a preview build of the game however, I no longer have any doubts that the portable version of Modnation Racers is as competent a title as its PS3 counter part.

Sony has already released firmware update 3.30 for Playstation 3 and though it may not let you watch 3D Blu-ray movies you can look forward to some 3D gaming action...well, not yet anyways.
The update itself is said to "prep" the PS3 for 3D gaming which is a feature intended to be introduced in the future as in, you know, not now but later. At least this gives you some time to save up a few bucks for that brand new 3D TV you'll need to play your games with the added illusion of depth perception.

To catch you guys up on recent Sony news, a firmware update was announced that would enable 3D gaming on the Playstation 3 and was planned to go live sometime in June. A few select titles including Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD, PAIN, and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift would feature the 3D update and other titles the likes Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, and Gran Turismo 5 were either rumored or hinted at. What the update doesn't let you do is watch 3D blu-ray movies.
Will 3D Blu-ray playback ever make it to the PS3? Yeah, probably. With the industries push to have more 3D television sets in consumer homes it would be invaluable to have a major video game console sport the new feature. As for more games sporting 3D other than the aformentioned? Can't say too much on that currently but expect Sony to be throwing all sorts of news around when the update hits this June.

Anyone whose followed Playstation Move will remember the distinctive "lollipop" orb that sits on top of the wand-like primary controller, but what about that nunchuck esque complimentary controller that is now pictured with every promo ad surfacing for the Playstation Move? What is that thing called?
Thanks to Endgadget's habbit of pouring over FCC documentation we now know that the secondary controller is called..."Navigation Controller." Okay. That, well, conveys its purpose quite blatantly I suppose. Not as identifiable or memorable as the "Nunchuck" attachment sported with Nintendo's Wii, but I guess it gets its intended purpose across.

God of War 3 is an excellent game. I think it’s, in many ways, the best exclusive PS3 title thus far. But it ain’t perfect, and we're all about finding the best, and worst, in games. As critics, it's our job to point out the extremes on both sides, so here, we discuss the darker side of God of War 3. (more...)

When I’d set out for GDC, God of War 3 was fresh in my mind. I’d just beat the game a few days earlier, and while my brain still today staggers in awe of the grandiose nature of Kratos’ finale, one rotten tart left a sourness only someone who helped make the game could remove. I didn’t intend to find a cure to my ailment concerning the end of the game, which you can read about here, but instead received some important, and somewhat numbing and humbling, food for thought.
It all came from a chance meeting with Stig Asmussen, Game Director on God of War 3. (more...)

Interactive storytelling was the goal developer Quantic Dream sought to create, and Heavy Rain is the product they and Sony have pushed oh so hard to make. Surprisingly, they fail in so many ways, while still making a unique and noteworthy title that many will undoubtedly enjoy, and many will definitely hate. (more...)

The PSN error 8001050F which kept PS3 (fat) owners off their systems, by Sony's advisement, appears to be fixed. Forum users around the interwebs are announcing functionality returning to their console, and I myself with my 60 GB fatty have encountered no problem signing into the PSN or playing some Uncharted 2. Things appear to be fine now, although Sony has made no official announcement.
Bet you didn't know your console could be floored by a teensy little clock sync bug, did ya? Let us hope this eventful day is one of a kind and nothing more than that.

The PSP hasn't exactly been the most steady platform in the industry, especially with the outright miserable launch the PSPgo experienced. Industry Gamers recently spoke with SCEA Senior Vice President of Publisher Relations, Rob Dyer, about the current state of the PSP and what Sony is planning to do about it. Dyer explains how piracy has really hurt the PSP but says that they are addressing it. He also promises that "big" games will be coming to the platform this year.
"I think we had a great lineup last year. The biggest problem that plagued PSP was piracy; we have not been able to slow that down," said Dyer. "We think we have some answers going forward, but we're not ready to talk about that publicly at this point. So we're working on fixing that, because that's been a big problem. Publishers, when they put out good games, are not getting the same sales results that they got a few years back. So piracy's been a big issue and we're working on that very diligently to bring about some solutions.
"That said, we still have a very robust lineup this year from third parties on the PSP, starting with Metal Gear Peace Walker," he continued. "I won't go through the whole lineup because I want our third-party partners to make those announcements, but there are some big, big titles coming out this year and you'll see those announcements at GDC, DPS (Destination PlayStation) or E3. We're into the sixth year now on the platform, and that's a long time for a handheld. I think given where we're at right now, we're doing very, very well. But yes, the business has had problems and I think it all stems, candidly, from the piracy."
