TimeGate has confirmed that Section 8 will in fact be coming to the PlayStation 3 this spring as a PSN download only. The game, which released last year on Xbox 360 and PC, will include a single-player campaign and 11 multiplayer maps, three being PS3-exclusive.

The PS3 version of Section 8 will make use of  TimeGate's TGNServer technology, allowing players to host 32-player matches from their PC.

If you're one of the 10 people playing Section 8, prepare for some DLC.  SouthPeak Games and TimeGate Studios have announce the release of the first downloadable content for both the Xbox 360 and PC. The “Seek and Destroy Map Pack” expands upon the game with three new maps for multiplayer and Instant Action modes as well as adding 10 new achievements.

Players will be able to fight for control of a geothermal energy plant on the salt flats of New Madrid in “Devil’s Backbone” and battle in the narrow confines of a hazardous valley on the planet Titan in “Hornet’s Nest”. “AzureBasin” is set high atop a mountain plateau where a massive hydroelectric dam sits astride the map, with combat ranging from both inside and outside of the facility.

The “Seek and Destroy Map Pack” is available now for 560 Microsoft Points.  Download it for the Xbox 360 here.

To those who are actually playing Section 8, an update has been rolled out from SouthPeak and Timegate Studios.  The update includes an improved automatch system, how the tank controls work and more.

Some of the improvements players will find include:

• Tank controls have been tuned, making them more intuitive and responsive
• The improved automatch system offers enhanced responsiveness when searching for a server
• Bot AI has been improved. Bots will now follow and defend allies and will pursue retreating targets more aggressively
• An improved stat tracking framework

The update is available for both the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows LIVE.
