PS3 Error 8001050F Appears to be Fixed

The PSN error 8001050F which kept PS3 (fat) owners off their systems, by Sony's advisement, appears to be fixed. Forum users around the interwebs are announcing functionality returning to their console, and I myself with my 60 GB fatty have encountered no problem signing into the PSN or playing some Uncharted 2. Things appear to be fine now, although Sony has made no official announcement.

Bet you didn't know your console could be floored by a teensy little clock sync bug, did ya? Let us hope this eventful day is one of a kind and nothing more than that.

Super Meat Boy Coming to XBLA

Originally announced for WiiWare and PC, Super Meat Boy will also be coming to XBLA, but here's the kicker: it's coming to XBLA before WiiWare and PC. Team Meat is hoping for a summer release with the WiiWare and PC releases coming shortly thereafter. There's no plan to bring the game to PSN even though Team Meat has told IGN it has the game running on a PS3 test kit (burn!).

The reason the developers are bringing it to XBLA is because it allows them to do more than on WiiWare. The game roughly halfway done so far, and it's already about 35MB in size. The problem is Nintendo limits the size of WiiWare games to 42MB, which means they have much more freedom on XBLA. That's one reason why the XBLA version will have online play.

Visceral Developing for XBLA, PSN

Visceral Games recently finished up Dante's Inferno, and it's next project, Dead Space 2, is set to be released later this year. However, don't think that all of the studio's resources are going towards the space thriller. According to Nick Earl, general manager of Visceral Games, the company is also working on titles for PSN and XBLA.

"Our express purpose is to make the sort of AAA hits that are just naturally found on 360 and PS3," Earl explained to Gamasutra. "We also do some PC work as well. That's not to say that we don't have smaller efforts under way and direct-to-consumer efforts on XBLA and PSN.

"We had really, really strong results with Battlefield 1943, which was created in a studio even bigger than Visceral and had to pay for its share of infrastructure. We've had great results for that. That is showing the opportunity there.

"I think we'll have some interesting offerings over this year and next that show our confidence in the space," he added.

The Official PlayStation Magazine reports that cross-game chat on the PlayStation Network could be a subscription-based feature.

"Aside from the 3D goodness, cross-game party chat is the obvious next big feature, even though it might be restricted to paid subscribers," the mag writes.

Just a couple weeks ago, Sony mentioned that it was "actively thinking" of ways to charge for PSN content.

Introversion: PSN Gives Devs ‘Weaker Negotiating Position’

filed under microsoft, news, ps3, sony, xbox 360

Darwinia+ developer Introversion believes that Sony's PlayStation Network gives indie developers such as themselves "a much weaker negotiating position" than Xbox Live. The comments come after yesterday's notion that Introversion was becoming increasingly frustrated with Microsoft's revision policies for the Xbox Live Arcade.

"I think there are different challenges with Sony," Introversion MD, Mark Morris told CVG. "With Microsoft, your approval is given at the start, as long as you deliver what you said you'd deliver you're going to launch, where as it's not like that with Sony.
