Speaking to Game Culture, writer and director of "Gamer," Mark Neveldine, mentioned his involvement with a Grand Theft Auto movie, saying he was set to write a script and put in a marathon session to get familiar with the series. But thanks to a rights collision with Ron Howard's 1977 movie "Grand Theft Auto," and plot disagreement brought the project to a halt.

"There is a rights issue," he said. "You can't make it about the game. It got to be a headache and we said we would rather not get involved in it. I think someone ended up writing some version of it to re-make the movie, but that isn't our interest, ours was bringing a videogame to life."

So there is a god.

As of now, this is all rumors, but I couldn't be more psyched. I adore the original movie, despite all of its cornball special effects and acting. My only demand: Jean-Claude Van Damme as Johnny Cage. Make it so, Warner.

You think BioWare's content with just games, books, action figures, and comics for its epic space opera Mass Effect? You're greatly mistaken. According to the Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson, there's "a tremendous amount of interest" in the idea of a Mass Effect film.

"Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture," Hudson told MTV Movies Blog.

Fortunately, Hudson isn't just looking for any old movie tie-in. He's aware of the crappy films that are made to complement games and vice versa. He wants it to be a "great" film, otherwise it shouldn't be made at all.

"The most important thing for us is we don't just want to see a movie get made," he continued. "We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get made at all."

Speaking with producer Mike De Luca, Collider found out that any chance of a Metal Gear Solid movie has died. "I don’t think it's going to move forward because I got the sense that there may not be enough of a coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made," said De Luca.

It sounds like Sony really wanted to get the movie done, but the creators of the video game got in the way.

"The video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and sometimes getting those two things to match up is really hard," he continued. "And in the case of Metal Gear Solid, the agendas just...not because the parties weren't amicable, it was just kind of impossible to get the agendas to match up."

Other rumors suggest Sony Pictures was not willing to invest enough money into the film, despite coughing up an estimated $40-$80 million.

District 9 was a pretty big box office hit. When asked about expanding the IP into other forms of entertainment, director Neill Blomkamp gave an interesting response.

"I play a lot of video games," Blomkamp told the LA Times. "The idea of District 9 as a video game stresses me out a little bit because games based on movies rarely work. And movies based on games don't work -- I don't know what's up with that."

Regardless of this notion, the director doesn't completely dismiss the idea of a game based on the film. "District 9 as a game would be fascinating. And I don't want to see it happen for any sort of corporate reason or profit thing," he explained. "I used to be involved in computer graphics and I love virtual environments. That's why I like video games, really. And I think a virtual environment of the slums of Soweto is an appealing idea to me. The weapons are cool, too. I photographed the film in a way that isn't that different than video-game perspective in some parts. So a game would be interesting to me. There's nothing happening with it though."

Blomkamp was originally chosen to direct the Halo movie, which was later scrapped due to a couple studios not playing nice. Anyways, what do you think? Does the idea of a District 9 game show any merit whatsoever?

Sony made quite a blunder earlier this week when it offered the movie Armored on PlayStation Stores while it was still in theaters...for free. In the five hours it was available, gamers were able to snatch up the free film on their PS3 or PSP.

Obviously the movie is already cleared for digital distribution, indicating that its actual release is not far off. Armored has received mostly negative reviews with a 5.8/10 on IMDb and 47% on RottenTomatoes, so if you missed it, you didn't miss much.

Director John Woo wants a Stranglehold movie, and he isn't giving up very easily. The game may have been overlooked, but Woo believes a movie would see more success. "I forgot to tell you," Woo mentioned in an interview with Cinematical. "We are going to make that into a movie." He didn't hint at any more details, and we have no idea on what the timeframe on it is. Also, when asked if another game could be in the works, he answered, "I don't have that much time, even though I want to make one again. Looks like no Stranglehold 2 in the works.

Woo also noted that he is currently working on two movies, one shooting in Taiwan and one in Shanghai. "I am quite busy these days," he added.

In a New York Post interview with actor Kevin McKidd, voice of Captain "Soap" McTavish in the Call of Duty series, it was revealed that a movie adaptation of the aforementioned game is in the works. He noted that the idea of a Call of Duty movie is picking up steam. Here's an excerpt from the interview, commenting on voicing the character and who would be the actor for Soap in a feature film:

They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film. If the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely.

So, will we be seeing a Modern Warfare 2 movie before we see a Halo movie? It sounds pretty promising so far.

Plan B Entertainment, Brad Pitt’s production company and Capcom have come to terms on the film rights relating to Dark Void. The theatrical version of the Dark Void game is being developed as a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.

Reliance BIG Entertainment’s Chairman Amit Khanna commented, '”We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them.”

“As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality - a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom Entertainment. “Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters.”
