We've seen a lot of crazy video game tattoos in our day, but we've never really taken a step back and realized some of the crazy -- or maybe just awesome -- ink jobs the characters in our video games have. Ink Art Tattoo has compiled a list of the 21 best video game characters with cool tattoos. The list includes Faith from Mirror's Edge, Sheva from Resident Evil 5, Francis from Left 4 Dead, Agent 47 from Hitman and Tai from Gears of War.

Check out the entire list, with pictures, here.

In the spirit of top 10 lists, review-aggregating website Metacritic has compiled a list of the top 10 most highly rated games for 2009. Check out the list below:

Now, unlike the TIME Magazine and Associated Press lists, this is actually a pretty good list. Metacritic also ranked the platforms in terms of review averages...

Associated Press’ Top 10 Video Games of the Year

Yesterday we had a post about TIME Magazine's list of the top 10 video games of the year. The Associated Press also released a list, which happens to lack a certain game who's name rhymes with "fall love moody: postmodern snorestair who." Terrible rhyme, I know. Without further adieu, check out the AP's list below and tell us what you think:

  1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  2. Assassin’s Creed II
  3. Dragon Age: Origins
  4. Batman: Arkham Asylum
  5. inFamous
  6. Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
  7. Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story
  8. Borderlands
  9. Forza Motorsport 3
  10. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

I'd have to say it's better than TIME's, but there are certainly some questionable choices.

10 Games to Avoid For the Holidays

Okay, potentially misleading title, but Common Sense Media released a list of 10 games to avoid getting your kids for the Holidays. Titled "10 Cool Games That Aren't Cool for Kids," the list offers a good replacement for each title that is considered inappropriate for younger gamers. Here's the full list with substitutes in parentheses:

  • Assassin’s Creed (Mirror’s Edge)
  • Borderlands (Infamous)
  • Brutal Legend (Ghostbusters)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Battlefield: Bad Company)
  • Dead Space: Extraction (Deadly Creatures)
  • Dragon Age: Origins (Braid)
  • Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (Batman: Arkham Asylum)
  • Demon’s Souls (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves)
  • Left 4 Dead 2 (Overlord II)
  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (C.O.P.: The Recruit)

It's a good list overall, but some of the substitutes don't seem much more appropriate than the games they're replacing, despite being rated Teen. Bad Company in place of Modern Warfare 2? Arkham Asylum in place of Gay Tony? It might be Batman, but it can get pretty violent.

20 Games Every Gamer Should Play

This was a really difficult list to make, to limit it to 20 games everyone should play. I know there's going to be a lot of upset people because certain games weren't included, but obviously I can't have them all in a list of 20 games. I tried to limit it to games that have aged well, thus excluding titles like Goldeneye 007 or Doom. I was tempted to put Tetris on the list, but I decided to leave it off. I also tried to keep a balance of modern and classic games. Anyways, here's my list of 20 games every gamer should play.
