Disclosing important narrative details -- spoilers -- is the business of Caution Tape, and what's been written beyond these words is intended to be read by those who have already completed the title of focus. If you have yet to finish or even to purchase said video game, and if you actually plan on doing so, it wouldn't be a bad idea to turn your attention to the many other features, reviews, and news posts on the site. The name of the game is Heavy Rain. Hey, that rhymed! (more...)

Heavy Rain Review: Isn’t It Ironic, Don’t You Think

Interactive storytelling was the goal developer Quantic Dream sought to create, and Heavy Rain is the product they and Sony have pushed oh so hard to make. Surprisingly, they fail in so many ways, while still making a unique and noteworthy title that many will undoubtedly enjoy, and many will definitely hate. (more...)

Heavy Rain is Apparently the Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread

This morning we learned that the PS3-exclusive Heavy Rain debuted at number one in the United Kingdom, making it the first PS3 title to do so since Killzone 2. Sony is reporting that shortages for the game might be coming.

"We have been extremely delighted with the demand for Heavy Rain," an SCEE spokesperson told MCV.

"Whilst it isn't out of stock we are aware that supplies are running low. There is still supply in the chain, but I'm afraid if you're hunting for a copy it may require a little extra footwork. There will be more stock arriving next week."

Marketing hype or not, the game's sales have already proven that it's a success. Check back for our review of Heavy Rain soon.

Heavy Rain debuted at the top of the charts last week in the UK with SCEA CEO Jack Tretton saying the game has sold "incredibly well." That might be an understatement though. Data from Chart Track indicates that Quantic Dream's thriller topped Aliens vs. Predator, making it number one in the country.

UAE Bans Heavy Rain

Sony confirmed this morning that Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain has been banned in the United Arab Emirates. MEGamers originally made the report, and Sony has sent Kotaku an official statement.

The UAE's National Media Council (NMC) has banned Heavy Rain on PlayStation3. Heavy Rain has an 18+ PEGI rating and has been conceived from the earliest stages as a genuinely adult experience. This means that it deals with strong content including blood and nudity, but treats this content in a mature and sensitive manner. The game is not intentionally controversial or sensationalist, and all the themes and content are consistent with what consumers would expect to see in a mainstream Hollywood thriller.

No specific reason was given, but it's obvious it was because of the game's "adult" nature.

Heavy Rain Creator Talks Next Game

While Heavy Rain is releasing stateside next week, its producer, David Cage, is already thinking about what's next, and he has "ideas that will be implemented in [Quantic Dream's] next game." Cage suggests that the studio's next title might support Sony's motion controller.

"You can always improve, and we have other ideas that will be implemented in the next game," Cage told the UK Official PlayStation Magazine. "And there are also other devices coming that we'd like to explore.

Cage has also expressed a lot of interest in Sony's "Arc" controller, which indicates the company might use it.

"You can always think of new ideas and new things especially with this format because it's so contextual. There are so many things you can do, just adding new words to the narrative language using the interface, and it's almost an endless thing."

Want to play Heavy Rain right now? Get the demo. It's not scheduled until February 11, but Sony has launched a website called Precinct 52, which asks players for four pieces of evidence. Once the correct evidence is submitted, you get a demo code.

The four pieces of evidence to submit (at the time of this writing) are:

• Short cigarette (117b)
• Origami bird
• Coffee shop C (it says "diner")
• 117h (tyre tracks)

Head on over to the website, but it look like massive amounts of traffic have caused it to act up.
