Five Reasons Why Halo: Combat Evolved is the Most Important Game of the Decade

by James Pikover Dec 20, 2009 2:25 AM CST

What makes the most important game of a decade? Most many units sold? Best critical rating? Most swear words per sentence/nude pixelated women? I think we can take it one step farther. How about most consoles sold?

Individual game don't sell consoles. That's a general rule that you find for game consoles, something PC gamers don't have. If you wanted to play Doom 3, you bought a brand new videocard, and that was final. But if a game comes out on the N64 and you have a PlayStation, screw it, you'll play it at a friend's house.

And then there was Halo.

Greenberg: “Halo: Reach Will Be The Biggest Game of 2010″

While talking to Gamasutra about the recent NPD Group figures, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg spoke about the next installment in the Halo franchise, Reach. Despite the competition, Greenberg is confident Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010. What competition exactly? Well, there's one title that might give Reach a run for its money, a little game called Gran Turismo 5.

When asked if he was concerned about PS3's Gran Turismo 5 launching alongside Reach, Greenberg laughed, saying, "Is it launching next year? I've seen years and years of minigames, but I haven't seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version, maybe that's what they've been working on. I feel confident that there's nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010."

How will Microsoft remain competitive with Sony?  They have a few tricks up their sleeve, but Greenberg commented on three things the company will do. "One, we will continue to offer a better value on hardware pricing. We will continue to remain $100 cheaper than PS3. Two, we will have more games, more blockbuster exclusives, no matter the genre. Three, you add all of the entertainment and social network," he concluded. "That's our focus, to keep adding more and more value. Consumers vote with their dollars, and so far it's been paying off, and we feel confident about next year as well."

Bungie Hiring For “Next Game Universe”

Well, it was bound to happen at some point.  Bungie is moving on.  From Halo, that is.  They've recently put up a bunch of new job listings, along with this:

"Histories and legends, combat dialog, weapon descriptions, etc. Your words will help define Bungie's next game universe."

Taking Bungie's history in the gaming industry, along with their Halo franchise, it's safe to say Bungie isn't a 'one hit wonder'.  While it's hard to imagine a Bungie game that isn't an FPS, either way we're mighty curious to see what they have in store for the future, and if the recent rumor of them switching to the PlayStation 3 has any truth to it.  Anyways, onto the job listings!

Update: This "ToM MoReLLo" character did not take those pictures. He merely plastered his name over them after stealing them from someone else(we've yet to find the source). We've found the original unedited pictures, thanks to NeoGaf.

A user by the name of "ToM MoReLLo" claims to have leaked pictures of Halo: Reach. He posted the images, which appear to have been taken with a cell phone camera, on the MLG message board. The pictures, covered with his watermark, show off what might be some of the weapons in the new Halo game. Take a look...
