
While speaking with the Telegraph last week at X10, game designer Peter Molyneux called on the UK government to support the games industry by giving tax breaks to local studios.
"It is just crazy that the British government does not recognize the games industry as a creative industry in the way it recognizes others," he said.
Canada recently passed up the United Kingdom as the third largest games industry in the world. Molyneux noted that many measures taken by Canada were "financially sensible."
"The UK has a great heritage of invention and creativity, it's just the rest of the world have a great heritage of recognizing that properly and it frustrates the hell out of me," the Lionhead boss concluded.

While speaking with GamePro, up-and-coming actor Shia LaBeouf, famous for his roles in Transformers and the latest Indiana Jones movie, offered his opinion on video games. LaBeouf thinks games will "take over" the entertainment industry.
"Video games are more successful than films," he stated. "It's just a different form of entertainment that's more of a tangible, visceral, emotional experience. Video games are emotional now. They've become cinematic, but they're filled with feeling, meaning and hope."

The FTC released a report to congress concluding that the games industry "outpaces" all other entertainment industries in terms of responsible marketing and advertising. The report revealed that 80% of sales of adult games to minors are prevented by retailers. However, not only have ESRB game ratings done an effective job, but game marketing has also. M-rated game ads weren't shown prior to 10pm, advertisements and retailer websites displayed age ratings, and "little evidence" of inappropriate target marketing through the traditional media was found, the report states.
