The latest Game Informer has the scoop on Dead Space 2. The game, taking place on a space station called "Sprawl," is set three years after the events of the original Dead Space, and the developers claim it pushes the horror elements the first was known for even further.

Sprawl is much vastly larger than the Ishimura, where Dead Space took place. It has shopping malls, schools, churches, and a number of other environments new to the series. It's an "organic, haphazardly constructed, long-term place that’s built around the remaining shards of one of Saturn’s moon-The first planet-crack ever. Like any real city it is not all built by one person. Some stuff was built up, and some areas, corporate areas, government areas, and public areas," the magazine reads.

Facing formidable bosses and what seem like impossible situations, Isaac has a number of new characteristics and abilities. If he jumps too far away from a surface, he risks floating through space, but he can also re-orientate himself. And he talks in the game!

Multiplayer was also hinted at in the magazine, saying, "All I can say is it’s really fun, and you’ll get to strategically dismember your friends." Sounds intriguing.

After seeing the cover of the next Game Informer today, some more art for Dead Space 2 was found online from the magazine. The image, seen above, doesn't show too much other than a vast, rocky planet being mined with a Marker next to a big canyon. What, you forgot? Isaac was an engineer working on a mining ship before all hell broke loose.

inkblot

We recently reported on a teaser that was posted a couple days ago by a Dead Space Twitter account. The image, seen above, showed a Rorschach inkblot that resembled some of the Necromorph aliens you encounter in the game. The image also had a mysterious message written in the alien language found on the USG Ishimura.

A user over at Helldescent.com was able to decrypt the intriguing message using a translation key. The message, when translated, reads: "The nightmare is over, but it will not end."

Now if that's not a contradictory statement I don't know what is. We'll have our first sneak peek of Dead Space 2 next month.

According to a recent job listing, EA is looking for a Senior Online Level Designer who should "be able to work collaboratively with Creative Director and Online Producer to create extremely fun, satisfying and polished multiplayer levels."  Given the first game's rather unique ways of dismembering enemies, things could get interesting in multiplayer...
