Steam Users Get Free Weekend With Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer

Modern Warfare 2 has one sweet multiplayer component that's almost worth the price of admission on its own merit. Still not convinced? Why not play it this weekend to see if you'll change your mind? Starting today steam users can get in on some newb-tube cheapness with Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer which will be free to play through this weekend only.

It's a shame that all the hub-bub taking place at Infinity Ward could (operative word is could) make this one of the last great Call of Duty multiplayer experiences we'll see in a while. If you have the PC power to run the game it may be worth it to download and play even if you're already playing it on other platforms. Free is free after all.

Pick Up Borderlands $20 Cheaper on Amazon

If you've been holding off on picking up Gearbox's "role-playing shooter" you might be interested to know that Amazon currently has all versions of the game available at a $20 discount, meaning you can get the game for around $40 on Xbox 360 and PS3 and around $30 for the PC version.  Can't determine how long the deal will last so if you're on the fence you may want to make a decision quickly.

So far Borderlands has enjoyed some pretty positive reception overall and has been well supported with DLC. If I wasn't already waist deep in a list of games I need to play I'd probably jump on this.

Here's a link to the deal for the impulsive buyer within you.

Red Steel 2 Review

At the advent of the Wii Red Steel was a game that wanted to revolutionize the FPS genre using the then innovative motion capabilities of the Wii remote. However, when put to practice the dream of  being able to realistically sword play in a 1:1 fashion stumbled over awkward controls and clunky pre-canned animations, concessions made in part for the de-glitzed motion capabilities of the Wii remote. A little over three years and one peripheral later, Red Steel 2 has arrived to try and provide the gun slingling, sword fighting action craved from its predecessor. With the Wii motion plus can motion controlled sword fighting finally be achieved, or is it better to not cross blades with this sword slinger?

Microsoft changed the European release date for Alan Wake. If you thought Europe was going to get its hands on Remedy's latest super natural thriller in late May, guess what? Its mid-May now. May 14th to be exact.

Announcements concerning a game's release date typically involve the date being pushed back so this is a pleasant surprise. US gamers won't get the game till May 18th, lucky devils.

Xbox 360 Now Supports USB Sticks, Ditch That Overpriced Memory Unit

An update is now available that will allow Xbox 360 owners to use any generic USB stick (over 1 GB in size) as a memory card to save profile data, save games, and even disc based games.  Considering the price difference between a typical flash drive and the previously proprietary Xbox Memory Unit, this update is nothing but good news.

If you plan on using a USB flash drive keep in mind the drive must be at least one and no more than sixteen gigabytes in size. The USB sticks will need to be setup through your 360 first before you can use them. You can plug two sixteen gigabyte sticks in at once for a total of thirty-two gigabytes.

Infinity Ward Loses More Talent

Two more long time employees of Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward have departed from the company around a month after studio founder and co-founder Vince Zampella and Jason West were fired for "breaches of contract and insubordination." Lead Designer Todd Alderman, who played a hefty role in Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer and story, and Lead Software Engineer Francesco Gigliotti both updated their Linkedin profile to reflect their now previous employment with Infinity Ward.

There's a lot of ugly speculation surrounding the Activision/Infinity Ward sackings. Activision has accused West and Zampella for courting rival publisher Electronic Arts for other Call of Duty related games while West and Zampella has accused Activision of deliberately withholding royalty payments to the developer for their work with Modern Warfare 2. Legal recourse is still brewing behind closed doors and the determination between who is right and who is wrong can be decidedly gray.

Its likely that more people will end up leaving Infinity Ward to follow West and Zampella. When the two left 2015, inc., developer of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, a lot of talent went with them which didn't very well help the developer in the long run. If things keep up the way they are now then Infinity Ward will surely suffer the same fate.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Coming to PSN

filed under dlc, news, ps3

Star Wars: Dark Forces was recently posted on the ESRB website for the PS3 and PSP indicating the game will soon be available on Playstation network as a PSX classic title for your nostalgic pleasure. Currently there is no price or release date details available but we can expect the game to arrive fairly soon.

Dark Forces follows Kyle Katarn, a hired gun for the Rebel Alliance on a mission to be a general pain in the arse for the Galactic Empire. The game preceeds the Jedi Knight series which was one of the first games to allow players to play as a Jedi with lightsaber and forcepowers. Dark Forces can be considered a standard FPS shooter but for its time it brought some innovative elements to the genre like jumping, ducking, and vertical looking. Great for its time, but may provide little more than nostalgia for those who remember the game from 1995.

Resident Evil 4 For iPad Doesn’t Look Half Bad

So the iPad is out now if the none stop coverage on practically every single tech blog wasn't enough to clue you in. With the release of Apple's touch pad wonder many games meant to utilize the added power and screen real estate of the iPad have made their appearance including both new titles and upscaled versions of iPhone games. One among them is Resident Evil 4 which, quite frankly, doesn't look all that bad visually.

Capcom ported over RE 4 for the iPhone last year and the end result was a bit lacking on the visual and control side. Since I don't own an iPad I can't say whether the latter issue has improved much with the larger screen, but if you tak a gander at the screen shots Kotaku was kind enough to post its definately apparent that the game benefits from the added rendering capabilities of the iPad.

Resident Evil 4 for iPad is currently available for download on the iPad App. store for $12.99. If anyone gets some hands on time with the game fill us in on what you think.

Duke Nukem Forever Would Have Gone Gold April 1st, No Joke

by Kyle Lehtinen Apr 5, 2010 10:48 AM CST

So apparently the infamous Duke Nukem Forever, long known for its ten year development cycle and vapor-ware status, would have gone gold, like for real "game is finished" gold, April 1st of this year if developer 3D Realms had not closed their doors. This is according to a Twitter update from  Jason Bergman, former producer for the game at publisher Take-Two.

Granted this news broke April 1st which is a day when the internet news space is akin to a proverbial mine field of misinformation due to April Fools licenseing the fabrication of ficticious news, but apparently Mr. Bergman assured Chris Morris over at Variety that the Tweet was legit.

Had 3D Realms not shut their doors and Duke Nukem Forever had indeed gone gold April 1st you can be sure the interwebs would have erupted in speculation and buzz. For a game with such a pedigree for missing release dates its not out of the question that some gamers may not have actually believed the news until actually seeing the game in stores with their own eyes. At any rate its all for naught as Duke Nukem Forever is not set for any release as 3D Realms and Take Two  are currently embroiled in a legal battle over the game. DNF still has a chance to make it out eventually, but the game definately isn't going gold for awhile.
