Heavy Rain Requires HDD Install

If you're like us, you're probably looking forward to Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain, which is releasing stateside February 23.  But you'd better have some space clear on your PS3's hard drive because the game will require an install. You'll need a hefty 4.5GB of space cleared for it to install game data, but hey, I'm not complaining. If it means no disc swapping and my system will run smoother, fine by me.

Rumor: Battlefront III = Battlefront Online?

Kotaku reports that its sources suggest Star Wars: Battlefront III has not been canned. Not only that, but it's coming in the form of Star Wars: Battlefront Online, currently in pre-production. The game is allegedly being worked on by both LucasArts and Slant Six Games, the team behind SOCOM Confrontation and SOCOM Fire Team Bravo 3.

As the name suggests, Battlefront Online is to be online-only, and it's slated for a tentative release in 2011 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Rumor or not, this should be some good news for Star Wars fans.

No Teen or Mature Games Allowed on Xbox Game Room

In order to avoid the lengthy ESRB rating process, Microsoft has gotten its new Game Room itself rated as E10+. While that means no more review submissions for Microsoft, it means that no games higher than E10+ can be on the Game Room. At first, this doesn't seem like a problem considering the Game Room is geared towards retro games, back from the days of yore when video game violence was but a fairy tale; however, on second thought, it means games like Street Fighter, Metal Slug, and Mortal Kombat are automatically nixed from the service.

Still, there are few games like those listed, and if you care enough about them, you probably already own them via the Xbox Live Arcade. So what do you think of this whole ordeal?

Sony is Happy About the iPad

The iPad presents new opportunities for mobile game developers, so one might wonder if it has any impact on handheld gaming devices such as Sony's PSP or Nintendo's DS. According to Sony, Apple's entrance into mobile gaming has actually benefitted them.

"Apple's entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony," said Sony's John Koller, Director Hardware Marketing. "When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP."

So basically they're saying when people get bored of the iPhone or iPad, they'll come to the PSP. That's quite some amazing spin Sony has managed to put on that.

Beyond Halo: Reach

feature

As I'm sure most of you will know, unless you've spent the last year living under a rock, Bungie is set to release its last ever Halo game sometime in September, and as promised, it looks like it'll be their best yet. The graphics, overall, will be sharper, cleaner and presented with a more realistic and gritty overtone. The AI will be twice as capable as Halo 3 and above all else, it'll feature a team of Spartans, armed to the teeth with a host of newly designed weapons.

But with all of this in mind, there is one burning question, a question that every avid Halo fan will be asking when the dust settles after Reach: "what now?" It's a valid point, and one worthy of close attention and intense scrutiny.

Konami announced today that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is getting delayed in Japan. Originally scheduled for release on March 18, the game will now be hitting shelves April 29. The company is citing additional fine tuning as a cause for the delay. Konami has not clarified if the delay will affect the North American and European release for the game, which are scheduled for May 25 and 27 respectively.

Coincidentally, this news comes a day after the Piece Walker puzzle game site went live.

The open PC beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 kicked off yesterday, and, of course, being the avid FPS gamer I am, I delved into it. I have played a little bit of the first Bad Company, but not substantially, making me a bit of a noob to the franchise spinoff. I've had time to play quite a bit of Bad Company 2's beta, and I can safely say I am impressed. Read on for my full impressions of it.
