A preview of the upcoming third season of the Jace Hall shows what appears to be Blizzard celebrating the StarCraft II beta. A user by the name of Joneagle at StarCraft2Forums.org
spotted it. The visit is supposedly "recent," and considering Blizzard takes most of December off, it's likely it took place in January. I think the beta is nigh upon us. Take a look at the incriminating screen after the break.

MAG released today, meaning it has also received a launch trailer as most games do. Midnight launch attendees will be disappointed, however, because PSN will be offline from 12AM to 3AM PST for maintenance. So while your waiting for service to return, watch this launch trailer over and over again. We won't be.

EA Doing More Battlefield ‘in the Background’

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is coming up quickly, in March to be specific, but EA/DICE has more BF action lined up. In fact, they're already working on "the next big Battlefield product," which is obviously Battlefield 3. That said, the last time we checked in with DICE, they were still going through their vast back catalog, deciding what era to go with in the third core Battlefield installment.

"In the background we're doing a lot of things that I can't talk about that are aiming towards creating the next big Battlefield product," Bad Company 2's executive producer Patrick Bach told GamerZines.

And although DICE refused to give an official comment on Mirror's Edge 2, it sounds like a small team from the studio is dedicated to a sequel on that front.

DICE on the Future of Mirror’s Edge

I personally found Mirror's Edge to be quite an enjoyable game, so I'm definitely interested in seeing what DICE whips up for a sequel, that is, if they make a sequel. NowGamer recently spoke with the developer about the possibility of a sequel, and ultimately, the future is unclear for the franchise. Considering EA's financial troubles, it looks like it's sticking to proven IP's.

"I can't really comment on that because we haven't officially announced that we're working on it," said Bad Company 2 producer Karl-Magnus Trodesson. "But we were very happy and proud of Mirror's Edge one as a studio, so we are thinking about what we are going to do in the future.

Darksiders Getting Fixed This Week

Darksiders is a pretty good game, but it's about to get even gooder because Vigil is releasing the much-anticipated screen-tearing patch. The update is coming this Wednesday around 2AM PST, and, as usual, it'll come in the form of an auto-update on Xbox Live. Vigil didn't announce if the patch will address any other issues plaguing the game, but the screen-tearing was the most problematic, so it's good to see it's getting fixed.

"To everyone, we really appreciate your feedback and hope you know that we're paying attention to all of it," the developer added on its blog.

Check out our Darksiders review in the meantime.

New Capcom Title is Monster Hunter Frontier Online?

Last week, Capcom and Microsoft teased us with a hint that a new title would be announced tomorrow. While speculation has been raging, it looks like we may have a definitive answer: Monster Hunter Frontier Online. A Korean magazine made the revelation in its newest issue. According to it, the new "Capcom x Microsoft" title is Monster Hunter Frontier Online, and that's about all the picture (shown in the link) reveals (not to mention I don't speak Korean).

A new Monster Hunter game isn't a huge surprise since many were expecting it. What wasn't really expected, was it to be an Xbox 360-exclusive (which I'm guessing it is considering Microsoft's involvement), but why would Capcom put a hugely popular Japanese game on a console with such a small foothold in Japan? Is this another attempt by Microsoft to gain more share of the Japanese market?

We'll get the definitive announcement sometime tomorrow.

Medal of Honor to Utilize Frostbite, Unreal Engine 3

Aside from the trailer shown off at the VGAs last year, we haven't seen much of Medal of Honor. Of course one would expect the game to be a looker, and indeed, it should be because EA confirmed that the game will use DICE's Frostbite engine as well as a heavily-modified Unreal Engine 3. Specifically, the multiplayer aspect will be powered by UE3 and the multiplayer will be Frostbite.

"As many of you may have read, we are using a heavily-modified Unreal 3 Engine for Medal of Honor's single-player campaign," EA revealed on the official Medal of Honor Twitter. "Medal of Honor's multiplayer will be using the Frostbite engine. Just to clarify, all of the footage in our trailer is Unreal Engine 3...not Frostbite."

With both Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor coming, EA has one hell of a FPS war line-up.

God of War Almost Got a Side-scroller

PSP developer Ready at Dawn revealed to Industry Gamers its plan, which was later scrapped, to bring the mega-hit franchise God of War into the two-dimensional world.

"There were early discussions of making Chains of Olympus a side-scroller rather than 3D in case the experience couldn't be fully realized on a handheld," said lead level designer Dana Jan. "This really fueled us to prove that it could be done."

Fortunately for PSP gamers, Chains of Olympus took the 3D route, and it ended up being a wonderfully crafted title. "Games like God of War don’t usually translate well when they are brought to handhelds," added Jan. "The gameplay, graphics, animation, sound, etc. have a tendency to 'differ' from their console counterparts.

"We knew from the beginning that God of War had a distinct visual style and an epic scale that had to be recreated on the PSP in order to do the franchise justice. With God of War 2 hitting shelves prior to Chains of Olympus, it quickly became evident that we had an even higher standard to hit with the visuals. It took us some time to reverse engineer the many components that make up the look (it's deceptively complex). The art department faced the huge challenge of fitting all the animation, textures, geometry, and FX into a fraction of the memory available on the PS2. They also had the task of creating expansive environments with incredible detail and many one-off visual set pieces. The God of War franchise was a great opportunity to push ourselves and our technology as much as the PSP hardware."
