DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is just under a week away, releasing March 2, so EA has sent out a new video for the PC version of the game. In it, producer Anders Gyllenberg walks us through some of the different features that PC gamers will enjoy. We also get a first look at Valparaiso, a map for the new Rush game mode.

After playing the beta on PC, I can safely say I am incredibly excited for this game, although it's going to be hard to balance playing this and the recently released StarCraft II beta.

Update: Disney has also announced that Split/Second will be releasing in North America on May 18. The game will be releasing on PC. We also received a look at the box art, which you can check out after the break.

Disney announced the European release date for its racer Split/Second, developed by Black Rock Studios. It's also getting a seemingly unnecessary subtitle. Split/Second: Velocity will be releasing in Europe on May 21 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

"Set within the world of a fictional reality TV show, Split/Second: Velocity players don't just try to race to the finish line -- they trigger explosive events that alter the track to take out opponents or create short cuts."

The PC version was mysteriously MIA from the announcement. We'll let you know when we hear more.

Medal of Honor Won’t ‘Wave the Flag’

Speaking with Inc Gamers, EA LA's Sean Decker explained that Medal of Honor follows in the path of films such as The Hurt Locker, which depicts the story of the men on the ground. It's not about politics, it's about soldiers' stories.

"I think, again, it was trying to stay out of all the politics," Decker said.

"There's been a lot of really good movies – the Gotham Awards just came out and Hurt Locker was the top one," he continued. "It has nothing to do with the war in Iraq and why it started, or anything else – it's just about the men on the ground, what they go through on a day-to-day basis, and their emotions."

Decker added that Medal of Honor does not address the reasons we entered the war. "That's not the story we're trying to tell."

"It's not going to be a big propaganda piece where we wave the flag, or anything like that. It's literally about the people that're on the ground."

Medal of Honor is expected to release this fall on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Despite requests for Infinity Ward to add the infamous Nazi zombies of World at War fame into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it's not happening, says the studio's community manager Robert Bowling.

"There will be no Nazis or zombies in any piece of Modern Warfare 2 downloadable content," he told IGN.

It looks like you'll just have to wait for the next Call of Duty to kill some Viet Cong zombies.

‘Shooters are F***ing Boring,’ Says Designer of Black

In a recent interview with OXM, the designer of Criterion's shooter Black, Stuart Black, revealed that he finds many of today's shooters "f***ing boring."

"There's a lot of cover-based shooters out at the moment. But when a guy hunkers down behind something, you've just got to sit there and wait for him to pop his head up. Pops up, couple of bullets to his head, pops back down again...and I'm waiting for him to pop back up again? F***ing boring," said Black. "I can't be bothered hanging around like that."

He makes a good point, but what makes it interesting, is Black is currently involved with a new first-person shooter IP. The game is set to be revealed next month.

Valve has announced a new version of Steam which is immediately available in public beta.

This opt-in beta is available immediately to all Steam users. If users already have Steam installed on their computer, they can take part in the beta by clicking this link (steam://open/settings) and then selecting "UI Update" under Beta Participation. If they don't have Steam installed, they can download it here (http://store.steampowered.com/). To preview the new Steam client without taking part in the beta, a complete rundown of the new features is available here (http://store.steampowered.com/uiupdate/).

With the new Steam release, gamers will now be able to see which games their friends have purchased directly within the Steam storefront. News outlets now have the ability to reach the Steam community through the new client's News aggregator functionality. Those organizations interested can contact Doug Lombardi at lombardi@valvesoftware.com.

With users purchasing more and more games through Steam, new methods of library management were needed. The new client introduces library customization tools to help gamers sort, group, and find games in libraries which for some hardcore players contain hundreds of titles. In addition to having lots of games, gamers needed methods of tracking all of their achievements in a standardized cross-game fashion, which is now possible with the new release. (more...)
