Army of Two: The 40th Day released last week, so one would expect EA's barrage of trailers for the game to stop. One would be mistaken then. EA has one more trailer up it's sleeve featuring Salem and Rios' shenanigans, this time traveling the entire world.

Ubisoft: Avatar’s Failure was a Result of Bad Timing

Unsurprisingly, the game adaptation of James Cameron's Avatar is -- let me not sugarcoat this -- a piece of crap. Despite that, Ubisoft thinks the game's utter failure in terms of sales was a result of poor timing on their part. According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, it was actually the movie's fault (it came out at the wrong time) and the game's release window's fault (the game couldn't hold on during the post-holiday drop off). It wasn't because the game sucked, of course not.

Nintendo DS Successor to be Announced ‘within 8 Months’

Analyst group EEDAR predicts the successor to Nintendo's DS will be announced within the next eight months. EEDAR also expects the system to launch in the next 15 months. Even though the DS saw a record year last year, it's expected to drop off in 2010, which is one of the many reasons Nintendo needs to make the switch.

"Nintendo has always had a controlling stake in the handheld market, despite facing numerous competitors, and EEDAR believes one of the biggest reasons for Nintendo's success in the handheld market is their ability to remove opportunity gaps for competitors to enter," the report reads. "Nintendo's transition from the GBA to the DS, a year earlier than anticipated, was a brilliant strategy to remove any upper hand the Sony PSP could have by being first to market."

NPD: December Belonged to Nintendo

NPD Group numbers are in for December, and Nintendo won big time, even edging out Activision's Modern Warfare 2. It looks like Iwata was correct, at least partly, when he said the Wii has recovered from a slowdown.

Nintendo sold over 3.81 million Wiis and 3.31 million DS systems in December. Not only that, but six of the top ten games for December belonged to the Wii. New Super Mario Bros. was the champion of December in terms of software, selling 2.82 million units and claiming the top spot for game sales. Wii Fit plus came in a close second with 2.41 million sales, while Wii Sports Resort came in at third with 1.79 million units. Surprisingly, Modern Warfare 2 rounded out at the fourth and fifth place positions for Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.

Nintendo has announced that the DSi XL, which sports two 4.2" screens, making them 93% bigger than the DS Lite, will be launching this March in Europe.

The new handheld is a premium addition to the Nintendo DS family, coming pre-loaded with some top software: Dr Kawashima’s: Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition and Dictionary 6 in 1 with Camera Function and the Nintendo DSi Browser. The console is launching in two colours – wine red and dark brown, with a glossy sheen on top and matt finish on the underside that provides better grip when resting on a table or other surface during gameplay. It also features a larger pen-like stylus.

The Nintendo DSi XL will feature the full capabilities of the original Nintendo DSi, and launches March 5, 2010 in Europe.

Transformers: War for Cybertron Trailer Doesn’t Suck

Here's some surprising news. Activision sent out a new trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron today. That's not the surprising part. The surprising part is that it actually doesn't suck. Considering the history of movie-game tie-ins, specifically Transformers ones, this is pretty big news. Of course, an awesome trailer doesn't necessarily translate to an awesome game, so I guess we won't find out until it releases later this year.

Developer: $.99 iPhone Games are ‘Frustrating and Terrible’

iPhone's App Store is great for indie developers because it makes it so much easier for them to get their games in the hands of consumers, but it's also causing a problem. Many iPhone developers are cutting the prices on their games lower and lower. Sure, cheap games are great for us, but it's making it difficult for other studios to turn a profit. Capybara co-founder Nathan Vella spoke about this problem in a recent Gamasutra interview.
