PS3 owners, if you missed the beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, you're in luck. The demo, which released on Xbox Live late last week, is hitting PlayStation Network tomorrow.
If you haven't checked Bad Company 2 out yet, I would encourage you to do so. It's a surprisingly awesome shooter. There's a lot of holy **** moments, but if you want more info on the game, check out my beta impressions.
Rockstar sent out a gameplay video detailing Red Dead Redemption's GameStop pre-order event. Those who pre-order the game will receive exclusive access to one of three outfits for John Marston, depending on how the voting plays out. Each outfit has its own in-game "advantages," but they are all unlockable through bonus side mission challenges.
Sega released a new trailer for its Western-bound action game Yakuza 3. It's in stores March 9 for PS3. We'll definitely be keeping our eye on this one.
THQ's Darksiders isn't half bad, but apparently the fact that it's one fourth bad is enough to make it sell like crap. According to Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald, the game is not performing as expected.
"Darksiders didn't perform up to THQ's expectations, likely selling less than 1 million units despite heavy marketing dollars, 2-3 years of development costs, and was also subject to discounting just 2 weeks after its release, said Greenwald.
I'm not sure what Greenwald considers "heavy marketing dollars" because I only saw a handful of TV ads for the game, much less than say Sega's Bayonetta. And I certainly have not seen the game discounted anywhere, so I'm not sure if I can totally back his reasoning.
Well what the hell did you think it was? Of course it's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It sold 11.86 million units across the US, UK and Japan alone, topping Nintendo hard hitters Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Fit.
If you care about the breakdown, according to aggregate data from NPD Group, GfK Chart-Track and Enterbrain, Modern Warfare 2 sold 8.82 million units in the US, 2.8 million in the UK and 238,000 in Japan.
The top five are listed after the break.
Sony expects to surpass Microsoft in sales very soon, and "it's not going to take long." Peter Dille, Sony's VP of marketing and head of the PlayStation Network, made the statements, even going so far as to say the Xbox 360 won't be around in 10 years.
"I don't think they'll be around in 10 years, so I'm very confident we'll pass them within that time frame," he told IGN. "I mean, we've got 31 million [units sold] worldwide right now -- they've got 39 million [units sold]. I don't even need to go out 10 years. I'm not going to make any predictions for your interview today other than we'll pass them, but you look at where we are today and where they are today, and they had an opportunity to sprint as far ahead of us as possible when they had the head start. Well, we're breathing down their necks and they can see us in the rearview mirror and it's not going to take too long to pass them."
Those are some pretty ballsy words. Can the PS3 pass up the Xbox 360, or has it been too costly (particularly around its launch) to catch up?
Yesterday, someone discovered that the PC version of Mass Effect 2 had what clearly appeared to be some PS3 code. BioWare has dispatched the myth that their game is coming to Sony's console, saying, "The Unreal Engine is cross platform, hence the PS3 code. This was brought up back in Mass Effect 1 days as well.
"Mass Effect is for the PC and Xbox 360."
So now it's final. No BioWare love on PS3. Go play something else, like Uncharted 2.
Square Enix announced Nier will be releasing worldwide April 23 for PS3 and Xbox 360. Nier is Square's latest title, an action-adventure game developed by Cavia. It revolves around the hero Nier, and his quest to find a cure for his daughter's sickness, fighting off waves of enemies in the process.
If you saw the trailer, you'd know this is definitely one to look out for.
2K premiered its launch trailer for BioShock 2 on NBC tonight during Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. They also distributed the trailer to the press this evening, so now you can watch it without having to endure Jimmy Fallon. It weighs in at three minutes and 15 seconds. Unfortunately, it lacks any gameplay footage as it's all CG (they try to trick you with the fake gameplay), but it's still pretty damn awesome! Now, if we could just un-see Bomberman...
BioShock 2 is out on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC February 9.
Project Needlemouse, or should I say Sonic the Hedgehog 4, will be getting a real name this Thursday...likely Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and today, Sega teased us with a small bit of the game's soundtrack. As you would expect, it sounds like Sonic (gasp!).
