If you've been holding off on picking up Gearbox's "role-playing shooter" you might be interested to know that Amazon currently has all versions of the game available at a $20 discount, meaning you can get the game for around $40 on Xbox 360 and PS3 and around $30 for the PC version. Can't determine how long the deal will last so if you're on the fence you may want to make a decision quickly.
So far Borderlands has enjoyed some pretty positive reception overall and has been well supported with DLC. If I wasn't already waist deep in a list of games I need to play I'd probably jump on this.
Here's a link to the deal for the impulsive buyer within you.
At the advent of the Wii Red Steel was a game that wanted to revolutionize the FPS genre using the then innovative motion capabilities of the Wii remote. However, when put to practice the dream of being able to realistically sword play in a 1:1 fashion stumbled over awkward controls and clunky pre-canned animations, concessions made in part for the de-glitzed motion capabilities of the Wii remote. A little over three years and one peripheral later, Red Steel 2 has arrived to try and provide the gun slingling, sword fighting action craved from its predecessor. With the Wii motion plus can motion controlled sword fighting finally be achieved, or is it better to not cross blades with this sword slinger?
Microsoft changed the European release date for Alan Wake. If you thought Europe was going to get its hands on Remedy's latest super natural thriller in late May, guess what? Its mid-May now. May 14th to be exact.
Announcements concerning a game's release date typically involve the date being pushed back so this is a pleasant surprise. US gamers won't get the game till May 18th, lucky devils.
An update is now available that will allow Xbox 360 owners to use any generic USB stick (over 1 GB in size) as a memory card to save profile data, save games, and even disc based games. Considering the price difference between a typical flash drive and the previously proprietary Xbox Memory Unit, this update is nothing but good news.
If you plan on using a USB flash drive keep in mind the drive must be at least one and no more than sixteen gigabytes in size. The USB sticks will need to be setup through your 360 first before you can use them. You can plug two sixteen gigabyte sticks in at once for a total of thirty-two gigabytes.
Star Wars: Dark Forces was recently posted on the ESRB website for the PS3 and PSP indicating the game will soon be available on Playstation network as a PSX classic title for your nostalgic pleasure. Currently there is no price or release date details available but we can expect the game to arrive fairly soon.
Dark Forces follows Kyle Katarn, a hired gun for the Rebel Alliance on a mission to be a general pain in the arse for the Galactic Empire. The game preceeds the Jedi Knight series which was one of the first games to allow players to play as a Jedi with lightsaber and forcepowers. Dark Forces can be considered a standard FPS shooter but for its time it brought some innovative elements to the genre like jumping, ducking, and vertical looking. Great for its time, but may provide little more than nostalgia for those who remember the game from 1995.
Just a heads up, Sega's sky fighter arcade hit is coming to an Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 near you April 21st and 22nd respectively for an estimated $10. The current release dates apply for both North America and Europe.
To be honest I never played the arcade game myself but word on the street is that this gem is a classic, so if high octane, ludicrous combat is your game then by all means get your dog fight on when the game hits XBLA and PSN this April.
The map pack, which has you capture strategic town positions and secure M-COM stations in Laguna Presa and Arica Harbor, is available with the VIP code which is included in every new copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Halo: Reach will be sporting the latest and greatest by way of online matchmaking options and Bungie went ahead and threw down a bunch of new info on their weekend update regarding some of the improvements.
There's a lot of info discussed on Bungie's site so I'll only name a couple things I noticed here. One item discussed was how a new map can be voted on if the randomly generated map doesn't meet your fancy. If you've played Halo 3 for a signifigant amount of time, you'll know that all to often veto'ing one less than prefered map and gametype would usually leave you stuck with an even more undesirable alternative. To remedy that Halo: Reach will display a list of three alternative maps that can be voted on to provide a better list of alternatives.
Another addition called Active Roster allows you to view current games your friends are playing in, whether or not you can join your friends matchmaking session, and Xbox Live parties people in your friendslist are in. The short and sweet is that creating parties with your friends no longer requires you to enter the Xbox Live guide menu making it a lot easier to coordinate invites between friends who might already be engaged in a matchmaking session.
Check out the above link for a complete run down. So far this is shaping up to be the definitive standard for all matchmaking games.
The original Super Mario Kart is heading to the Wii Virtual Console this Friday, featuring 20 tracks rendered in fluid Mode7 graphics. Consistently regarded by many as one of the best video games ever made, Super Mario Kart on SNES was originally released seventeen years ago and has spawned five hit sequels.
For 800 Wii Points you can relish in a wave of nostalgia, going head-to-head with your friends in split-screen, enjoy the multiplayer favorite Battle Mode, or go solo racing against an all-star line-up of Mushroom Kingdom characters.
