feature

Such a game is difficult to review, especially when it is crucial it contains no spoilers but I must get across just how great this game really is. As the fifth installment of possibly my favorite franchise on the Nintendo DS, the Ace Attorney series, you play as Miles Edgeworth. To get this out of the way first, this game is different to the previous installments as obvious as it seems, for one you play as a prosecutor for the very first time, as well as the title says, is all about the investigating.

We all know them, love them and are aware of the great games that they make, but what makes Naughty Dog such an excellent developer?

The studio has a tendency to create a new IP every generation for the Playstation. As we all know, they are the creators of the hugely popular Crash Bandicoot franchise on the Playstation. They moved on to their Jak and Daxter series. While boasting rather similar platforming, the sequels brought guns into the mix. Of course, on the Playstation 3, they began their Uncharted franchise, which boasts amazing visuals and an incredible cinematic experience.

I list the following reasons why Naughty Dog is one of the best developers around.

To begin with, recently I have been a console-only gamer. I have not played a PC game in the past two years, so I must give it credit for that alone. However, after beating Mass Effect 2, I felt satisfied yet could not see the huge hype. While this is not technically a review, I will be speaking about a few aspects of the game and what it means for RPGs.

I may be doing this under strong emotion, but it's valid nevertheless. I have a question: raise your hand if your Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Wii has died? I can be quite sure a vast majority have your hand raised as we all know this is a large issue these days; however, not as bad as earlier this generation. Another question: how many of your Playstation 2's, Xbox's or purple green lunchboxes (Gamecube) died. I cannot raise my hand. My Playstation 2, which I purchased second hand is running fine after a year of use. My Gamecube has been running without a hitch ever since launch, yet I've gone through two Playstation 3's and waiting for my third.

Naughty Dog's website gets an upgrade as more stats are available for Uncharted 2 players to check out.

Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer writes:

"It’s been a while in the works—we recently made a major update to NaughtyDog.com to add a ton more detail to everyone’s multiplayer stats and we think you’ll really like this website update. There’s still a few things here and there that need tweaking and updating, but this update brings us quite close to our original vision of displaying multiplayer stats from UNCHARTED 2."
