Does your job suck? Todd Howard's doesn't. That's because he gets to play video games at work or -- perhaps better yet -- he gets to make them. Howard, of course, is the executive producer and game director for Bethesda Softworks, creators of The Elder Scrolls series and Fallout 3. Howard first started at Bethesda when he was 24 years old. When he started 15 years ago, his parents told him to have a backup plan. Now he's spending part of his lunch hour playing Fallout 3 in his office.
"Sometimes I equate [working at Bethesda] to an organized fraternity," said Howard. "We play games at lunch, we have a giant movie theater in the building, we have a pool table, [and] we have multiple video game setups." The company -- consisting of artists, designers, and programmers -- even has its own chef. Nothing quite says "awesome" like having gourmet meals at work.
However, all of that is not nearly as important as the comfort Howard feels after completing work on a game. "The greatest feeling in the world is making a game and then going to the store and seeing someone buy it," Howard added. "It's very special."
