Development for Halo: ODST lasted a mere 14 months, which drew criticism for being such a short turnaround. Now rumor has it Halo: Reach's development cycle might be shorter than first expected.

Hong-Wei David Liu, a sound designer and engineer, has been working with Bungie and working on Halo: Reach since November 2009, according to his LinkedIn profile. On his personal blog, Liu writes about working for Bungie. He also commented on their current project, Reach.

"Work here is supposed to last eight to nine months here, as I’m under a contract to last until the end of the project which may or may not be at the end of July," he wrote. "Knowing the company I’d be working for, however, I don’t expect them to miss their mark."

Reach was announced at E3 last June. Now, truth be told, we don't know when development on Halo: Reach began, but it's likely it was at least a few months. Give or take, this would place the development cycle at a little over one year but less than two years. Bungie has said Reach will release by Fall 2010, putting it between September and November.

File this one in the rumor category.
