Christian Group Seeks to Ban Modern Warfare 2

Maine’s Christian Civic League is calling for a ban on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. "The public has been dangerously desensitized to violence," the group writes. "Many find a thrill in participating in violent video games." They continue to say the game goes too far, "even in our own desensitized age." Of course, the notorious "No Russian" level is most offensive, according to the group.

"All decent people should denounce the game," they add. The League is also asking the state of Maine to ban "these" games entirely. They then bring up the topic of school shootings, saying violent video games and shootings go hand-in-hand. "The danger is growing each passing day."

Coincidentally, the same group accused a bookstore owner of being a witch and casting a spell on the administrator of the League. I think this might cancel out any argument they have. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot...

  5. This is retarded. This is why certain people hate religion. Because they try to push their beliefs on others. “All decent people should denounce the game,” Are they serious? That’s retarded. Its a video game about real life. Or at least a simulation about what war is like. So how about they ban war then? That would be awesome. How about “Good people should denounce war”

Do they not know what goes on in the world today? I bet if we had a full out world war, you wouldn’t even have to train half of america because of these games.

  7. While I agree that this is non-sense, let me remind you that this group doesn’t represent Christians everywhere.Let me remind you all that many soldiers are Christians, and the majority of the Allied soldiers of WWI and WWII were Christians. I don’t think that a whole group should be black marked because of some people who are crazy.

There is justified violence then there is unjustified or non-since violence.
I am personally rather disappointed in the the developer in putting “Speak No Russian” in the game. I think this was just for shock value. And it really made no since otherwise.
Why would an American agent or other be part of such non-since? Why not be the getaway truck driver? Who takes part in the defending of the group as they get closer to the get away truck. That would make more since.

Funny, you should mention WWII soldiers being Christians. Hitler was a Christian. Look into that. Name me one war fought in the name of Atheism.

  9. People like this give religions a bad name. If people are losing trust in religions, it’s not a devil’s work, but that of religious maniacs’.

I have played videogames almost since I was a baby, and I haven’t shot anyone. And I live in Mexico. MEXICO!!!

  15. What a bunch of morons. Don’t they have better things to do, like spread a load of BS stories and then execute people who’s ideals are different from their own?

A Christian group accusing other people of being historically violent? LOL…….obviously they never studied History.

  17. The Christian group has a good point, but perhaps takes it too far. It’s true you cannot blame violent games for school shootings etc., and somehow I don’t think anyone that plays modern warfare 2 will be desensitized much if they were to fight in real war.

It’s ignorant to look at one group of Christians and then assume that all Christians are like them. “The Catholic church killed people in the crusades, therefore all Christians are hypocrites and God doesn’t exist,” “people are killed in the Bible therefore God is a mean bully,” and on and on is bad logic and silly. Read the Bible for yourself, then compare the people that claim to be Christians to what it says to see which are fake and which are true followers of Christ.

As to forcing beliefs on others, if a Christian actually believes you will go to an eternal hell unless Christ forgives you for the sins you’ve committed, wouldn’t the most loving thing he or she could do would be to warn you?
