Two Futuremark Employees Leave, Possibly Due to Poor Sales

What an awesome Christmas season this is turning out to be.  Two Futuremark employees, Petri Jarvinen (Level Designer) and Nick Renqvist (Audio Designer) have posted on the official Futuremark forums that they are no longer working for the company.  As you might know, Futuremark recently released Shattered Horizon, a multiplayer-only FPS-Z for just $20 on the PC (digital download only).

While it's unclear why they're no longer with the company, one did mention that the game didn't "sell as well as other games" and "that has its effects."

Jarvinen had this to say for his final goodbye:

It's been great working with this game, but as we all know, all good things come to an end. I would like to give a huge THANKS to the community and all fans of Shattered Horizon for the support. You have helped us mould this game to the near perfection that it is today.
DON´T PANIC!

Now this does not mean that the game is dead, it's just that there are less people making it. I mean, as you all know the game didn't sell as well as some other games, and that has it's effects.
Oh well, this is not the end. It's the beginning. I'm looking forward to what life brings next. :D

Cheers, Petri Jarvinen

Renqvist:

I'm in the same boat as Piit, so I'd also like to thank all of you for the 10 great years at Futuremark! I was there to start the community, and a bit sad to leave it now, but life has to move on. Who knows, maybe I'm back in business some day.

Hopefully this won't affect the promised content Futuremark has in store for Shattered Horizon. Jarvinen did reassure gamers that it won't have any effect on the game. We've contacted Futuremark Games about the situation and are awaiting a response.

  1. What? Shattered Horizon was the best game i ever played!!! My entire family all had to pitch in so they could get it for me for my birthday! I don’t want the franchise to end, it was the best game of 2009, IMO. Much better than Galo 3: ODST. It has REAL multiplayer and lasted for more than 5 minutes.
