First, you might be wondering why the leaderboards for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 are being reset when the game hasn't even been released yet. The reason for this is is that some people were able to get their hands on an early or leaked copy of the game. This is obviously unfair to gamers who haven't been able to obtain the game, giving those who have it an early headstart on the leaderboards. Well fear no more.
Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling (aka FourZeroTwo) announced on Twitter today that the leaderboards will in fact be reset, citing, "It definitely looks like a full leaderboard / level reset is in order just before the release date to ensure no unfair advantages. They’re listed on the leaderboards. Logging online with a modded Xbox is like sewing a big red scarlet letter on yourself."
Coincidentally (or not), this announcement shortly follows the major banning Microsoft made on gamers using a modded Xbox 360. Now not only will modders not be able to even get on Live, but their high level on Modern Warfare 2 will vanish. What a shame.
