Those trying to play Modern Warfare 2 on the PlayStation 3 haven't been having the best of luck, unfortunately. Almost immediately after Sony sent out an update for the PS3, players were no longer able to connect to any Modern Warfare 2 servers. Players were also reporting issues with their friends list and trophies.
Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling(aka 'fourzerotwo') recently sent out a tweet about the issue.
Looks like it was the amount of connections at once that killed PSN. They're enabling 20,000 users at a time to connect now.
They seem to be connecting roughly 20,000 users at a time, with Demonware's server failure being the main reason for the disaster. The fact that so many people were denied access to Sony's servers is actually a good thing, because the amount of error messages sent to their server blocked all access to Modern Warfare 2 and prevented all of PSN from shutting down.
However, seeing that Modern Warfare 2 was one of, if not the most anticipated game this year really should've prepared both Sony and Demonware for the high amount of traffic. Bowling also stated that the team at Demonware is working non-stop on the issue, so hopefully they can get things running within the next 24 hours.
